Electron, proton, neutron or Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh?
For generations we have been taught life lessons through stories. Be it Ramayana or Mahabharata, the messages have always been conveyed to us through characters leaving us with a choice to either just stay fond of their aura or go an extra mile to understand the teachings they carry. I had always been a fan of our holy books but now I am in deep love with them because it is beautiful how their characters can give you the answer to your question and still leave it unanswered at the same time. I have always been fascinated by a question that tries to link mythology with Science.
“Is the trio of electron, proton and neutron a representation of the holy trinity or Tridev?”
In the past I also read some articles on it after this question hit my mind but I never really resonated with the absolute conclusions they made. Anyway, let me tell you about my thoughts. Let me tell you the two factors behind this question popping up.
1. The way they are placed
It is stated that Vishnu (Narayan) sits on Sheshnaag and Brahma is at a distance from him. The two gods are connected by an umbilical cord. On the other hand, a Shivling (symbol of Shiva) is found right next to Vishnu. Though they work in complete coordination, we only keep coming across instances where Shiva and Narayan have limitless affection towards each other, be it Ram (an incarnation of Vishnu) religiously worshipping a Shivling or Hanuman (a form of Shiva) serving Ram for life. There is not much mention about the affection between Shiva and Brahma that I know of.
Now coming to what Science says, an atom is the fundamental particle that makes up everything around us. It consists of an electron, proton and a neutron. A proton and an electron are always at a fixed distance and remain in the same way due to an attractive force. This resembles the placement of Narayan and Brahma as a system. Likewise, the neutron remains extremely close the proton and the two are held by an extremely strong force of attraction (nuclear force). This replicates the placement of Shiva and Narayan as a system. In addition to it, there is absolutely no attractive force between the neutron and the electron.
If you’ve read this till here, you must have figured out that I am implying that there is a striking similarity between Brahma and an electron, Vishnu and a proton, and Shiva and a neutron. If this has interested you, I promise you the next section of this writing is going to blow you away. Let’s now see how they play similar roles too.
2. Their roles
We are all aware that Brahma’s role is to create new entities whether definable or not. Narayan’s role is to preserve them and keep them running. Finally, Shiva’s role is to destroy them when the time comes. We must also not forget that Shiva is in deep meditation and doesn’t interact much with other particles. If disturbed, there is destruction all around and it is beyond control.
Similarly, when there is any exchange of an electron in an atom, a new species is created. A proton, which was already exerting an attractive force, makes some adjustments to preserve the newly formed species. This remains the same all the way till a point where the neutron is disturbed in any way. When that happens, a humungous amount of energy is released causing destruction that is almost beyond control. It is so high that it is the foundation of a nuclear or atomic bomb. So not only how they are designed, but there are also similarities in their roles too which is something that cannot be ignored at all.
CONCLUSION
In a way you and I can understand how electron, proton and neutron represent Tridev or vice versa if you would rather. But the absence of any visual proof still leaves the question active. Remember I wrote in the beginning that the most beautiful thing about our mythology is that it can answer your question while leaving the question still active in the back of your head. I guess it is needed in order to always have curiosity and hunger for answers which is the ultimate reason behind new developments. So here I give a piece of my curiosity to you so you can ask yourself – Are electron, proton and neutron the modern-day representation of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh?
Also ask the curious people you know by sharing the link to this article on your favorite social media or messaging platforms. I hope I brought some value to you through this blog post.
Thank you for reading till the end. You’ve been very kind.
